What is PVD Gold and Rose Gold?

This acronym in English means: Physical Vapor Deposition, which is a coating process that is used to give titanium jewelry a durable, shiny and wear-resistant finish, WITHOUT LOSING all the physical and chemical properties of the titanium. titanium

In this process it is required

  • Creating a vacuum: The piece of jewelry is placed in a vacuum chamber where almost all of the air is removed.
  • Vaporization of the coating material: The coating material used in Helix is Gold, which is heated at high temperatures until it vaporizes.
  • Coating Deposition: Vapors from the coating material are ionized and accelerated toward the surface of the jewelry, where they adhere and form a thick, uniform layer.
  • In this way, high quality jewelry is obtained at a more affordable cost than pieces made entirely of solid gold.

Why choose PVD instead of gold plating

• The material of the jewelry is Titanium, it is hypoallergenic, nickel-free and biocompatible and as it has a PVD process, the titanium DOES NOT lose its physical or chemical characteristics
• Compared with normal gold plating, PVD is thicker and more resistant
• They are jewels that perfectly withstand daily use and compared to plating, they resist three times longer.
• The gold plating process is traditionally done by “dipping” and is not applicable to titanium,  while PVD is done by vaporization
• The average thickness of PVD is 4 to 6 microns while the plating is 3 microns, that is, the PVD layer is thicker.

Having jewelry made entirely of 14K and 18K solid gold is an investment for life and will never lose value, but we know that it represents a higher cost, PVD offers you an alternative with highly durable and more accessible characteristics. Likewise, at HELIX we offer you the two materials 14K SOLID GOLD and TITANIUM JEWELRY WITH PVD PROCESS and Nothing prevents you from combining these two materials in your piercings.

Finally, keep in mind that when a jewel already has a PVD process, it does not allow anodizing and in fact it is not necessary since the gold or rose gold color is already applied to the jewel in a uniform, lasting way and with a fine finish.
